VIC FALLS, ZIMBABWE & BOTSWANA
AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 3, 2024

ABOUT Victoria Falls:

Ranked as one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World, Victoria Falls is located on the Zambezi River on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Today, it remains one of the most popular destinations in Southern Africa, with visitors traveling from far and wide to admire the falls from viewpoints on both sides of the river.

At 5,604 feet/1,708 meters in width and 354 feet/108 meters in height, Victoria Falls is neither the world's widest or tallest waterfall. However, the combination of both measurements makes it the world's largest waterfall, with over 500 million liters of water plunging over the edge per minute during peak flood season. This astonishing volume generates a curtain of spray that can be seen from up to 30 miles/48 kilometers away, giving the falls its indigenous name, Mosi-oa-Tunya or 'The Smoke That Thunders'.

The spectacular helicopter flight over the Victoria Falls is known as the ‘Flight of Angels’.
The best way to appreciate the true splendour of the Victoria Falls is to photograph them from the air. Our helicopters have specially designed ‘bubble shaped’ windows perfect for panoramic viewing and great photographic opportunities from all seats.

ABOUT Hwange National Park:

Track resident elephant and buffalo herds, as well as giraffes, lions, zebras, and the rare African wild dog

Take in the views on a scenic flight into the heart of the Okavango Delta. Climb into a mokoro (dugout canoe) and glide along the waterways around our remote camp to catch a first glimpse of the area’s abundant wildlife. Enjoy a sundowner deck back at the camp before dinner under the stars.

ABOUT Okavango Delta:

We expect to photograph lions, leopards, wild dogs—and even the rare roan antelope! Photographing wildlife from a boat offers an excellent opportunity to create water-level compositions or capture incredible scenes of large herds of up to a thousand elephants.

Geography

Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It’s bordered by South Africa to the south and east, Namibia to the west and Zimbabwe to the east.
Botswana is home to the world's largest concentration of African elephants and other iconic African wildlife. The beautiful Okavango Delta, the vast Kalahari Desert and the game-rich Linyanti. As well as warm, wonderful people and thrilling adventures by vehicle, air and on foot. All combine to make Botswana an unforgettable photo safari.

LUGAGGE

Only soft bags will be accepted – no frames or rigid structures. Wheels on a bag are only permissible if they are not part of a solid frame or rigid structure. Luggage restrictions guidelines are 18 kg (40 lb) per person in a soft bag check-in luggage and within the relevant dimensions. The total weight of our camera bags will be TBD.
We require the individual body weights of ALL guests prior to travel.

Currency

The official currency used in Botswana is the Pula. USD, Euros, UK Pounds and South African Rands are also accepted. Major international credit cards are accepted at most hotels and there are also ATMs available throughout Botswana, dispensing local currency.

Time Zone

Botswana shares the same time zone as the rest of Southern Africa, which is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) +2 hours, in the Central Africa Time Zone (CAT).

SAFARI VEHICLES

Our safari vehicles are the best in their class – custom Land Cruisers designed to provide ample room for you and your gear, with excellent visibility with a driver and a so called “Tracker” upfront.  Game drive vehicles have a bucket seat mounted on the front of the car for the tracker. This allows the tracker to read the roads for wildlife tracks or droppings in order to find animals quicker. These safari vehicles are very different from vehicles in Kenya as in that they ingeniously "tiered," and each boasting three rows of seating for two people, creating a personalized setting for eight passengers. To enhance your comfort, we only allow four photographers per vehicle.

Electricity

220V multi-plug adaptor points are provided in our rooms which can be used to charge batteries, mobile devices and sleep apnoea machines. We also supply universal charging points in our safari camps. It is advisable to bring an additional adaptor as a back-up for any other hotels or properties you may be travelling to.

Packing

Because of the size of our aircraft, we can only accommodate soft bags, weighing up to 20kg (44lbs.) Pack a maximum of 3 or 4 days' worth of clothes, as our camps offer laundry service. White and solid bright stand out in the wild, so choose fewer items, in softer shades of khaki, brown or grey. Flies are attracted to dark blues and black colors.  Please bring warmer clothes for the evenings and early morning game drives. A detailed packing list will be emailed to you.

Language

Setswana is the main local language, but English is widely spoken.

PHOTOGRAPHY INSTRUCTION

This is a workshop, not just a tour with instruction in the field and camp by Adam Jones.. Evenings feature image reviews and post-processing instruction and during the day, we offer one-on-one instruction. Throughout our adventure, you'll gain a wealth of invaluable knowledge, from capturing breathtaking shots in the field to mastering the art of post-processing in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Vaccinations

Do I need a yellow fever vaccination to go to Botswana?
If you are travelling to Botswana from areas infected with yellow fever, like Kenya, you must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate.

MALARIA PILLS

CDC recommends that travelers going to certain areas of South Africa take prescription medicine to prevent malaria. Depending on the medicine you take, you will need to start taking this medicine multiple days before your trip, as well as during and after your trip. Talk to your doctor about which malaria medication you should take.

Can I use my credit cards

MasterCard and Visa (both with raised credit card numbers so that an imprint may be taken) are usually accepted throughout Botswana and Zimbabwe. American Express is accepted in some instances. However, Diners Club is not accepted.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

You are required to buy Travel Insurance in order to join us on this trip.
