SOUTH AFRICA: WILD CATS
AUGUST 13 - 23, 2024

ABOUT Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve

This unique and highly-regarded private game reserve is considered one of the best game-viewing arenas on the continent. It is certainly a Big Five country and, coupled with our private  luxury lodge, the shared border with the legendary Kruger National Park and the knowledgeable and friendly staff, a visit to this reserve is worth the money and time spent.

Sabi Sand covers 65 000 hectares of Mpumalanga bush with two established rivers and enjoys the highest and most bio-diverse animal and bird populations in Africa. Sabi Sands is the place in South Africa to easily see all of the Big Five in a short period. With a good population of highly habituated leopards, Sabi Sands is one of the best places in Africa to see these normally elusive cats. Lions and cheetahs are also easily seen.

Through historical ideals and modern practice, Sabi Sand leads the way in the conservation of rare and endangered species, wildlife and habitat monitoring, anti-poaching efforts and wild-fire control. It provides a haven for the eco-tourist who desires only the best game viewing opportunities.

This safari experience is aimed at the discerning photographer who wishes to enjoy only the finest that South Africa has to offer. We will have exclusive use of the Lodge here.

About Johannesburg

Johannesburg is one of Africa’s biggest and most vibrant cities. It is the economic capital of Africa and the gateway to Southern Africa. Although not as famous as other South African destinations, there is plenty to do in Johannesburg and nearby Pretoria. The old city is a multi-cultural mixture of traditional medicine shops, Chinese restaurants, taxi ranks and ultra modern skyscrapers. There are excellent museums, art galleries and organised tours of historical and political interest. The shopping is Southern Africa’s best and the many restaurants cater for all tastes. The nearby township of Soweto is Johannesburg’s most popular tourist attraction.

Is this trip for you?

Indulge in the epitome of luxury as you join us on an unforgettable adventure. Our camps have been chosen for their exceptional comfort, knowledgeable and friendly staff, delectable cuisine, and proximity to wildlife. We prioritize isolation and exclusivity, ensuring that you won't find yourself surrounded by dozens of other vehicles at sightings. Our accommodations offer the utmost in comfort and style. Typical tented setups feature twin beds with storage for clothing, a cozy sitting area, a verandah, and en-suite bathrooms with toilets, hot water showers and electricity.

Prepare for action-packed days that start before sunrise. After coffee or tea, we embark on our first game drive, capturing the animals as they stir in the best possible light. Depending on sightings, we'll spend several hours in the field until mid to late morning. Once back in camp, you can download camera cards, receive personalized instruction, or simply unwind. Late afternoon, we venture out again, chasing the most remarkable sightings. Witnessing the sunset while sipping your G&T and capturing its beauty through your lens is a popular highlight. As night falls, we return to camp for dinner. It is a very easy trip with very little walking.

Failure to present an e-passport will result in denied entry. Passengers with a valid visa issued in a non-machine readable passport will be handled on a case by case basis, but a fine will still be applicable.

safari vehicles

Our safari vehicles are the best in their class – custom Land Cruisers designed to provide ample room for you and your gear, with excellent visibility with a driver and a so called “Tracker” upfront.  Game drive vehicles have a bucket seat mounted on the front of the car for the tracker. This allows the tracker to read the roads for wildlife tracks or droppings in order to find animals quicker. These safari vehicles are very different from vehicles in Kenya as in that they ingeniously "tiered," and each boasting three rows of seating for two people, creating a personalized setting for eight passengers. To enhance your comfort, we only allow four photographers per vehicle.

Please note that Sabi Sabi is situated within a malaria area. It is recommended that guests consult their physician/travel clinic regarding easily administered malaria prophylaxis before embarking on any safari travel to South Africa. Always stick to bottled water and wear sunscreen.
