January 31 - Arrive Venice (VCE)

Arrive in Venice. Have your camera out, as the photo opportunities begin the moment you first lay eyes on the city. You will be instantly mesmerized by the blend of western and eastern architecture that makes Venice a city like no other. We will meet at in the hotel to get acquainted and to discuss tips for photographing the masked carnival attendees. Group dinner at one of our favorite Venetian restaurants. Overnight at Hotel Colombina. (D)

February 1 - Venice

Sunrise shoot in the Piazza San Marco. Each morning of carnival, the masked carnival attendees arrive to pose for photographs with hoards of photographers participating in the spectacle. After sunrise, we will have our own private models to shoot for the remainder of the morning in some of the most beautiful locations.

This afternoon, we will experience the city from the water where you can photograph the iconic landmarks as well as hidden gems on a boat tour. It is highly recommended that you bring a wide angle lens for capturing the narrow backwater canals and passages of Venice. Sunset shoot at San Giorgio. Overnight at Hotel Colombina. (B)

February 2 - Island of Burano

Sunrise shoot in the Piazza San Marco. After breakfast, we depart by private boat to the island of Burano. Burano, the traditional home of hand-made lace, is known for its brightly colored buildings in squares and on canals. These buildings will make a dramatic and different backdrop for photographing our private masked models. We will capture the reflections of the colorful homes that ripple in the gentle movement of the water.

Return to Venice after lunch for late afternoon photography in around the city. In the early evening, we will journey across the lagoon for a sunset shoot at San Giorgio. Overnight at Hotel Colombina. (B)

February 3 - Venice

Sunrise shoot at Punta della Dogana and Santa Maria della Salute. After breakfast we will do a walking tour of the Piazza San Marco, described by Napoleon as "Europe's most elegant drawing room." The tour will include the Basilica, towering Campanile and Doge's Palace.

While the Basilica di San Marco is a hugely impressive cathedral in its own right, a visit here should always take in a trip up the Loggia dei Cavalli. The stairs put many off, but getting up close and personal with the Basilica’s fabulous mosaics more than make up for a little exertion. Always have your camera with you as the photographic opportunities are endless.

Again, we will travel across the lagoon in the early evening for another opportunity to shoot the masks at sunset. Overnight at Hotel Colombina. (B)

February 4 - Venice
